Love, Not Guns.

Hey guys,

So, last week was a bit of a rough one.

*I never really try to put out content that debates political topics because this blog is supposed to be a nice blissful escape from the real world, and all about the things I’m passionate about. But I’m passionate about stricter gun laws in the U.S. It’s something I truly believe in and I just have to speak my mind about an incident that recently occurred. Sorry, if this isn’t your speed or type of content, but this blog was made to be a safe place where I could write all my thoughts out and I’m going to do just that. Continue at your own risk*

I’ve been a bit absent the past couple of days trying to deal with a horrible tragedy that occurred close to home. I’m not sure if any of you heard, but there was a school shooting in Parkland, FL, last Wednesday on Valentine’s Day. The shooting was named as one of the worst mass shootings in America and I can’t even begin to comprehend what that means.

How to survive Valentine’s Day when you’re Single.

It’s pretty simple, actually.

I’ve been doing it since the bane of my existence, so I would consider myself an expert at this point.

Hey guys! Today, in honor of it being Valentine’s Day tomorrow, I thought I would share my thoughts and tips on being lonely on the world’s most romantic holiday of the year! Although, today is Tuesday and every Tuesday I post a TIDU- Things I Don’t Understand, I thought I would switch it up this week. Before I start, I just want to dedicate this post to all my single people out there. And to all the people who are in relationships, good for you , I guess?? Anyways, let’s just get started.

A Work in Progress.

If my life were a book, it’d be called a Work in Progress.

Filled with a jumbled up concoction of my thoughts and feelings.

Mixed with a pinch of salt and sugar, and stirred until looked fine, but tasted ill.

It would take less than a chapter before you realized what a complete and utter mess I really am.

And more than half the book to understand that nice and pretty things don’t stay that way for long.

Beneath the pages would be the joy, the tears, the laughter, the excitement, but mostly the fear.

TIDU #3- Procrastination

You know, sometimes I really hate myself.

Today, happens to be one of those days.

Hey Guys! woah. wait. it’s already Tuesday?! It can’t possibly be.

Yeah, that’s exactly what I said when I woke up from a much needed power nap, 5 minutes ago. To which I then proceeded to freak out because I was supposed to wake up at 7:30 pm, but I slept an hour more, and now my whole schedule is ruined and who am I kidding, I dont even have a schedule!!

okay, deep breathe.

The Cruel Prince: Book Review // An Unpopular Opinion

I’m actually terrified to post this. Please don’t kill me.

Hey guys!

Today I’m going to review The Cruel Prince by Holly Black and why I didn’t like it as much as I thought I would. I guess that’s the problem with hyped up books. You get so excited to read it and without trying to, you have these high expectations and by the end of the book you’re left utterly disappointed. I’m actually so disappointed by the fact that I was disappointed after reading The Cruel Prince. I wanted so badly to believe that this book was worth all the hype but I couldn’t. So, I’m here today, after loads of research and Emma’s encouragement to write a review, to talk about my unpopular opinions.

This post is fairly long.

Beware. I have opinions!! Very strong ones!! And they must be heard!!

Also includes A LOT of explicit language. sorry not sorry.

As it is my first time doing an unpopular review post, I thought it best to divide my review into 5 major problems/ issues I had with the book. This list ranges from different characters, to scenes, and lastly to the overall plot. I recommend you go grab a snack because this is going to be a long one. Also, this review has both non-spoiler and spoiler sections. Each issue will start off with the non-spoiler section and then might take a deep look at what went wrong with some spoilers. Be aware of spoiler signs! Thanks!

The Blogger Recognition Award: Mom, I made it.

Okay. It’s been 2 seconds. I still don’t understand.

Hey Guys! So apparently, I was nominated for this amazing award by an even more amazing human being named Zara over at @SaRitzy! If by any chance you haven’t checked out her blog yet… what are you still doing here? GO check it out. please and thanks.

Alright, so I’m assuming you’re back from throughly looking at Zara’s blog and if you haven’t yet… well, I’ll give you a few minutes to go shower her with love.

Now that we’ve got our priorities straight, I guess we’ll just start with the award rules?

  1. Thank the blogger who nominated you and leave a link to their blog
  2. Write a post to show the award
  3. Give a little backstory on how your blog first started
  4. Share two pieces of advice you think new bloggers should know
  5. Nominate five other bloggers for the award and leave a comment on one of their posts to let them know, along with a link to your award post

How One Day an Idea Became a Full Born Baby

It all started… yeah, no. My life before blogging was subpar at best, which means that there is no interesting story about how this blog came to be. But there is a normal story that I’m willing to tell and it goes like this…

Girl gets bored out of her mind.

Girl picks up book about a blogger.

Girl wonders if she could ever create a baby of her own.

Girl suddenly finds herself pregnant and ready to deliver any second.

And a few hours later, Girl has given birth to A Beautiful Escape.

(previously known as “Life of a Teenage Ranter” before the baby had an identity crisis and changed it’s name).

and that’s precisely how the whole shebang went down.

Advice for Other Bloggers

Interact. Socialize. Mingle.

I personally think that this is something that everyone on the blogging community should always do. If you aren’t putting yourself out there, you cant expect people to find your little hidden corner of the internet. And please try to be sincere when you comment on another blog. Don’t just comment because you want more readers, but comment because you legitimately enjoy that blog’s content or that blog post. One thing that blogging has shown me is, that there can be people halfway across the world from you who’s loving the same books as you, or struggling with school like you are. And I just absolutely adore how supportive this community has continued to be one day after the other.

The blogosphere is a 100% no bullshit area. Don’t try to pretend to be someone you’re not just to get more views. IT WILL NOT WORK OUT. I know it can be hard at first to find your voice and figure out where you want your blog to go but if you’re just faking it, you’re not going to be happy. Nobody wants to read carbon replicas of another blog. They want originality. And yes, again I know it’s not as easy as it sounds but all you have to do is start with you. What do you have to day? What do you like to do? What are your interests or hobbies?

 My Nominations

Upon my return to the blogosphere, it was these five who made me feel most welcome and left a bit of an impression on me and basically what I’m trying to say is that I’M OBSESSED WITH THEM.

Emma is actually probably one of the funniest people on the face of the planet. and although she already did this award I just HAD to nominate her again because she god to honest, deserves nothing less.

Jana an actual angel. As mentioned in the advice section, I love when people comment and you get to have an actual deep and meaningful conversation. Jana makes me feel important and relevant and I cant thank her enough for that. x CHECK OUT HER BLOG.

Gracie a WOKE QUEEN. I appreciate Gracie so much, you have no idea. A lot of her blog posts always leave me thinking and completely shook. And she’s extremely supportive and sweet and kind and you need to go check out her blog at this instant.

Peachy  appreciates great books and movies. There’s nothing more I could ask for in a blogger. Her reviews are absolutely fantastic and if you haven’t checked out her blog yet, what are you doing?

Kerri who has an aesthetically pleasing blog and is a bit of a beautiful mystery to me but I’m looking forward to reading more of what she has to say and write about!

And we’ve made it to the end. Thank you so much to all those who have supported this blog and who continue to support it. And thank you again to Zara for nominating my quirky blog for this award!

I hope you guys enjoyed and talk to you soon,

Best Wishes,

Catalina xx

Misconceptions About Introverts -TIDU #2

Hey guys!

Hope your Tuesday isn’t as miserable as mine is right now  is going swell, I guess? Today, I’m going to finally continue on with a series I created (that I hope to do every Tuesday) called TIDU- Things I Don’t Understand. Check out my first TIDU here! This week’s topic is all about misconceptions that people love to place on introverts. Being an introvert myself, I felt like I needed to discuss  the generalizations associated with our character and personalities.

The idea first popped into my head when I was in, believe it or not, business class. As always, my friends and I were completely dozing off to whatever the teacher was talking about, and taking Buzzfeed quizzes. If you know anything about Buzzfeed, you know that they are notorious for their quizzes. And so, whenever we have absolutely no clue what the teacher is talking about, or have fallen into a state of utter boredom, we type away our lives and wait just a few seconds for the results.

It was on a completely random day about 2 weeks ago, on which I took a quiz that apparently guaranteed whether I was an introvert or extrovert. I’m pretty sure the title was something like “Pick through these set of choices and we’ll tell you whether you’re an Introvert or Extrovert!”

Maybe a review? An attempt at it’s finest. // Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom

Hey guys!

Today, I’m going to attempt to write a review on a very special book series that has basically ripped my heart from my chest and has kept it ever since. It’s been about a week since I finished the duology, and I can honestly say that I am mentally and physically unstable. Like, I dont understand how a book CaN bE ThAT gOOd?!

If you haven’t already guessed what book I’m talking about, please, allow me the pleasure of introducing probably two of my favorite books of all time…

I first read Six of Crows when it came out, and it was unlike any book I’ve ever read before. Everything you could possibly want in a book, it’s in there. From the characters to the settings, there wasn’t a minute whilst I was reading this book that I wasn’t completely mind blown. Six of Crows and Crooked kingdom had me on the edge of my bed, screaming and crying, because it felt like I knew the characters. Leigh Bardugo has created the most interesting and hilarious set of people and I can’t thank her enough for writing such an amazing book.

For those who haven’t read the series, Six of Crows is set in the Grisha world, which is a world from Leigh Bardugo’s other series Shadow and Bone, and is basically about a heist mission. A group of misfits are put together on a heist mission where they have to break into one of the most heavily guarded prisons ever. If they succeed, they will each be given a large sum of money. Now I don’t want to say much more than that because I think it’s best to go in a bit blind. If you’re at all bit interested and want to read a better synopsis (because mine was a bit crap and vague) just click here..

If you haven’t read either Six of Crows or Crooked Kingdom, I’m sorry to say this is a goodbye, but comeback so we can discuss after you’ve finished!

The Girl Behind the Blog.

Hey guys! It’s me…

Life of a Teenage Ranter // Status: Unavailable??

Okay, so first and foremost I want to say welcome to the new, the old, and the visiting readers! If you’ve just recently found my little corner of the internet, this is my formal introduction I guess? And if you knew me before I decided to pull a Hannah Montana stunt, I guess I have a bit of explaining to do.

So in the iconic words once uttered by Michie Torres (Camp Rock, duh),

This is real, this is me.

I’m the girl behind the blog.

Best Movies I watched in 2017! // Top 5

Hey Guys!

Today, I’m back to tell you all about my favorite movies that I watched in 2017. If you didn’t know, besides books, I really enjoy watching movies and I’m so excited to share my favorites in the hopes that you guys go and watch them! Like I did in my Top 5 books of 2017! I’m going to start off with my least favorite and then lead up to my most favorite of the year. The movies I’ve selected vary between different genres so if you don’t like comedies maybe there’s one about action that you’ll love. I also wanted to include some honorable mentions at the end, so keep reading to find out!

5. The Greatest Showman // Trailer:

EEK!! This film recently came out and it’s all anyone has been talking about. This story takes place in New York and is about a man with big dreams who decides to create a show where the unusual is appreciated. Along the way he loses sight of what’s important, but what I really loved about this movie is that you should never be afraid to be who you are. From the music to the dancing, all the scenes from this movie were so magically written and played out that you couldn’t keep your eyes away. And I mean literally! Halfway through the movie I had the sudden urge to use the bathroom BUT I JUST COULD’NT LEAVE. That’s how amazing all the songs and the actors were in this movie.

BEWARE: This movie will most definitely leave you obsessed with the soundtrack and finding yourself humming the lyrics everywhere you go.

Top 5 books of 2017!

Hey Guys!

Today I’m gonna be sharing my Top 5 books of 2017 with you. I know it might seem a little late to be doing this, but better late than never? Anyways, I was super excited when I saw other blogs doing their favorite books of 2017 and felt inspired to do my very own. I also want to say that most of these books did not come out in 2017, but I read them in 2017. Originally I had planned to do my Top 17 books of 2017, but then I went to my Goodreads account.

Every year I participate in the reading challenge and 2017 was no different.

Except for the fact that I only read 23 books.

I only read 23 books.

23 books.

When the page popped up, you best believe I did a double take. I mean, how is it possible that I barely read any books last year? Besides being a bit disappointed in myself, I feel more sad than anything. Last year I had almost lost that spark. The spark to read and get lost in magical worlds. I hope that for 2018 I find the time to read more books because I love reading and I’ve missed the way I would feel after reading a book. It’s a tremendous feeling, let me tell you. Anyways, under these unfortunate circumstances, I want to share my Top 5 books with you in the hopes that it encourages you to get up and pick up a book.

Long time, no see…

I have absolutely no idea where to begin.

It’s been a while since I last wrote a blog post. A lot has happened since then and I can confidently say I’ve missed you lot a whole bunch.

Okay, yikes. I took a “break” and basically missed a whole year.

and your probably wondering the following..

Who am I and why the hell are you following this random girl???

Umm honestly I have no clue how to answer those questions but if you think you might be in the slightest interested to read about what has happened in the last few weeks of my life, continue on! and if your not interested, well it’s not like I care or anything pfttt *cries quietly in the corner*

I started my junior year of high school last fall and it’s crazy to think we’re already half way through the year. I mean, how is that even possible? One minute I’m thinking about what I’m gonna dress up as for Halloween, and the next minute I’m thinking about how chocolates and a big ol’ pack of Fun Dip will be the only things I cuddle this Valentine’s Day.

So far, Junior year has been a roller coaster of emotions. The first 2 quarters of school were a bit rough and I spent an endless amount of hours shedding tears and stressing about AP tests and classes in general. I never expected AP Calculus to be so difficult and I surely never expected to fail math tests left and right. Aside from school, my personal relationships haven’t been to hot either. Sometimes you want to believe that friendships will always last and fights are only temporary. I’ve lost some friends this year, but I’ve also made some pretty cool ones. At the beginning of the school year I was accepted into this amazing fellowship that deals with leadership roles and social issues. Since then, I’ve attended meetings with a group of 20 other students at my school and have learned beyond what I thought capable.
